Kefir, a wellness gift to your body!

Is there one food we can eat that will bring us back to feeling better now?  The answer is yes and that food is kefir. Rich with cancer protective qualities, there is little that kefir cannot do to restore a feeling of wellbeing and a state of wellness back into your life.

What then, is wellness?  Wellness is defined as the practice of three important E’s: Exercise, Eating Clean® and Emotional Self Care.  We can’t be truly well if one or the other is lacking.

In the modern world, wellness is no longer a state to be taken for granted.  There are just too many distractions filtering into our busy lives. Consider our food supply, which today could well be blamed as being the number ONE cause of illness.  Add to this the unceasing hammer and drip of technology into our lives, where there is hardly a place or time when we can be “off.” It becomes very difficult to access wellness in these times.

The body’s trillions of cells constantly seek a state of well being.  It’s called homeostasis or balance. As owners, it is our duty to properly nourish this human body so we too can be in a state of wellbeing and wellness.  This means we must feed ourselves the goodness of the earth and we must practice emotional self care. If you marry those practices with exercise, you are going to feel amazing.

Where I feel the greatest source of hope to shore up our failing state of wellness lies, is in what we consume.  The very basis of health lies within us, as the good doctor Hippocrates stated those many years ago, “Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease”.   If that is true then we must deliver to those working forces, the very ingredients on which they flourish, so that we can access wellbeing.

The people of the Caucasus Mountains understood this. They enjoyed robust health and a vigorous lifestyle, in part thanks to kefir, a richly pro-biotic drink made from fermenting cow or plant milk with a kefir SCOBY - Symbiotic Community of Organisms Bacteria and Yeast - culture.  The word kefir comes from the Turkish word “keif” which means “feeling good.” And this is the way you will feel when you consume kefir regularly.

According to tradition, the grains and the instructions for the preparation of kefir were received directly from the Prophet Muhammad.  He bade them keep the secret as to how to make this liquid that would make you feel so good. It is considered as an elixir of youth, life and longevity.

I make kefir every day using a kefir SCOBY given to me from a friend.  It is easy to make and works beautifully in an Eat Clean lifestyle. Kefir can be enjoyed sweet or savory. I always use kefir in my baked goods, chia seed pudding and in smoothies.  I enjoy the health benefits of this beautiful food and invite you to do the same. You will feel good. Amazing even!

Enjoy this beautiful recipe below and share your experience.  How do you feel after eating the kefir? The pudding? Have you used the kefir in another way?

I can’t wait to hear.

Warmly and with best wishes for wellbeing.
