Gemeinschaft – Gesellschaft
We are social beings and it is the feeling of belonging that matters more than just being together. That is the power of the Wellness Communities I am building on my newly launched site. Through memberships – COMMIT, BOOST, and/or ENGAGE – we can come together in our common pursuit of wellness. We don’t have to do it alone.
Renowned philosopher and psychiatrist, Alfred Adler, was among the first to observe and understand “Gemeinschaft Gefühl.” These German words mean the feelings that come with belonging to a community. According to Adler, when we are encouraged, we then feel capable and appreciated, which leads us to act in connected and cooperative ways. Ultimately that sense of connectedness leads to feelings of belonging and being involved in something significant, something more powerful than us. These are powerful human needs.
In my membership programs, you have the opportunity to belong to a community of wellness seekers, each pursuing his or her goals of optimal wellness. Within that community, there is room for sharing our successes, our obstacles, even our failures. I think failures are wonderful teachers! The community provides a safe place in which to track our efforts, all to the good end of becoming healthier, happier people.
A further aspect of Adler’s teachings was the responsibility to participate and connect within the community. I have seen this happen during our Cleanse or Strike Sugar programs. The private Facebook pages offer such a rich space in which to reach out and touch others. It’s quite remarkable. My membership programs provide that same opportunity.
And because I want you to feel empowered every day, to reach a new and different level of commitment to your health, video blogs, exercise videos, recipes and menu plans, along with my advice and musings on this wild world we live in, will be delivered to you. Fresh content! Always!
For example, here is a little treat for you today, member or not. It’s hot out there. And humid. So humid my sunnies fog up every time I go outside. I’m thinking about the menu for today. How to eat and keep cool at the same time?
