Happy Thanksgiving My American Friends

November 21, 2018

Thanksgiving celebrations are in full swing for all in the USA as turkeys are being roasted, cranberry sauce recipes are being dusted off and pumpkins are being turned into pies. As a Canadian with a loyal and wonderful US following I am happy to repeat my celebration.

I am celebrating with my brother and his family in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I make the yearly pilgrimage with my mother. Having already celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving in October, I feel a guilty pleasure in repeating the joy. Having once lived in the US, I also have an American born daughter, so I feel deliciously connected (and entitled).

How we celebrate, is a highly personal decision.

My brother and his family are highly athletic so it is no surprise that the day began thus. My sister-in-law, Tammy – an endurance athlete and multi-Iron woman competitor – and I participated in a Hot Pilates class at Pure Hot Yoga A2 first thing this morning. We did it fasted. And if you are curious to know what that kind of Pilates is, know this up front: it’s hot, very hot; it’s intense, as in HIITs intense; it’s exciting with no option for boredom – thank you Ann Putvin for that butt kicking class. It is most definitely NOT glamorous either. OMG! My face was as red as a beet and I looked as if I had wet myself!!

Throughout the workout, I kept giving thanks to my personal trainer, Sue McHardy from Sue’s Ignite Fitness. Her focus has been on building and strengthening my core. Deep into 7 minutes of planks and 100’s, I could say I did an admirable job of keeping up. My core is stronger than it’s ever been. Thank you Sue!!

Next some yummy hot coffee and breakfast. If you’ve ever watched The Five Year Engagement, you will be tipped off on the delicious and often sinful delights of Zingerman’s, coffee and sweet treats included. I adore sampling the food goodness they create. More to come as the day progresses. But do check out the deli and the delights. I’m sipping on my fresh roasted coffee as I write.

We have now moved the activities to the kitchen table at my brother’s house, where we are doing a puzzle, sampling his delicious fruit cake. He (my brother Ron that is) makes it himself and I honestly think he needs to go into business. Boozy, rich, moist and flavourful. It’s not like any other fruitcake you’ve ever had.

The Turkey Feast is on the hopper. I am personally looking forward to the delights that will soon pour from the kitchen: Smoked Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes … you know the menu!

The deepest joy comes from being with my family, in the moment, now, without distractions. Hearing about my nephews and their endeavours, including college, weight training (naturally!!), hockey and more, makes me feel super connected to their lives. I believe I must make the effort to connect and maintain relationships. It’s on me. I cherish knowing that I matter in their lives. I love catching up with them all.

As I sign off, in preparation for the big feast, I want to take a moment to thank you all for your loyalty to me. I haven’t been consistent with my writing and my online presence. For that I apologize. But know this. I am revitalizing and rebuilding. I now know the past is perfect. It’s behind me. I’ve let go and am so very excited to share what’s new and upcoming in the Tosca Reno/Eat Clean world. And it’s big. Very big. So stay tuned.

Thank you to you all. I am grateful for you.

Wishing you all a wonderful and enriching Thanksgiving.

Warmly,

Tosca Reno
